Goals: 0:1 Andrew Fowler (41.); 0:2 Elias Demourtzidis (Penalty, 90+2.) Friday night Modbury Jets took on Campbelltown City on a cold evening at Jet Park, Modbury. This was always going to be a tough assignment for the Jets, but without Matt Kelly in the midfield this added to the difficulty. The first half saw Campbelltown looking sharper but there were chances for the Jets as well. The first real chance came when a good ball over the top found Sam Farncombe whose shot was well saved by Campbelltown goal keeper Nigel Young. Leading into half time Campbelltown stepped up a gear with the assistance of some terrible Jets disposal Campbelltown players found themselves with plenty of space and a good ball over found Andy Fowler who also had plenty of space and he headed in the first goal giving Campbelltown the lead at 41 minutes into the match. Not long after the goal Barney Smith pulled off a great save and right on half time a Todd McSorley clearance off the goal line ensured that the score remained at 1 - 0 to Campbelltown at half time. The second half required a big improvement from the Jets if they were going to get anything from the match and Nathan Day did his best to lift Modbury and an early ball over to him saw Young again pull off a good quality save. Not too long afterwards Day took a long run himself and did everything right except for his shot going wide. The middle of the ground saw too many turnovers from Modbury and this hurt them all night. At the 92nd minute a penalty was awarded to Campbelltown for a foul and this was converted by the captain Elias Demourtzides giving the Red Devils a winning 2 - 0 score. In the final outcome Campbelltown were the better team who deserved victory on the night. Match report courtesy of Modbury Jets. |

Goals: 0:1 Daniel Reynolds; 1:1 Gianluca Lagati Blue Eagles and Raiders slogged out a 1-1 draw at Marden Complex. Blue Eagles played out the last four minutes of the match with nine men when youngster John Giannitto and veteran Tony Zito were expelled within seconds. Raiders drew first blood in the first half when Daniel Reynolds pounced on a loose ball to prod the ball into the back of the net. Blue Eagles Italian import Gianluca Lagati equalised in the second half after a pin-point corner from Argentine import Mauro Beron. |
Goals: 0:1 Alor Bulabek; 1:1 Tim Sarris; 2:1 James Yong; 2:2 Robert McDonald (Penalty); 3:2 Ivan Karlovic (Penalty) CUMBERLAND United's boss Nick Pantsaras says time is running out but he believes the Foxes can be saved from the Super League drop after Saturday's tense 2-3 loss to MetroStars at TK Shutter Reserve. With Premier League soccer looming for both clubs ahead of the match, MetroStars duo Tim Sarris and Fabian Barbiero were both expelled during the second half in a spiteful clash. Despite the loss Pantsaras said the Foxes can make up ground on Saturday week by dragging itself off the Super League floor starting with a win over Modbury Jets at Bailey Reserve. This weekend the competition takes a break for the FFSA Cup semi-finals. ``We're quite fortunate that we've got a break to gather our thoughts for such an important match,'' Pantsaras said. ``The game was there for the taking but that loss really hurt. ``It was important to gain some points but it wasn't to be.' Pantsaras said his club will monitor the progress of Brenton MacDonald along with David Tassone when the pair suffered from suspected broken noses after an incident packed clash against MetroStars. MacDonald and Tassone were both x-rayed on Saturday night. Cumberland's Alor Bulabek handed the Foxes the lead in the first half before MetroStars equalised through Sarris just before the half-time break. James Yong put MetroStars ahead in the second half before MacDonald equalised via the penalty spot. Despite Metro being reduced to nine men the Klemzig-based club's Ivan Karlovic scored the winner from the penalty spot after Cumberland's Damien Gagliardi handled the ball inside the box. ``That goal killed us,'' Pantsaras said. ``But now we have to look ahead. ``We've also got White City in the coming weeks and they're only a point above us. ``Our fate is in our own hands.'' |
