Campbelltown City - MetroStars 3:2 (2:1)

Goals: 1:0 Nathan Fleetwood (15.); 2:0 Elias Demourtzidis (35.); 2:1 James Yong (40.); 2:2 Tim Sarris (52.); 3:2 Mimi Saric (67.)

METROSTARS defensive midfielder Ivan Karlovic said his club is not out of Super League relegation danger after going down 2-3 to rival Campbelltown City at Newton Village Sports Complex on Saturday.

This weekend's meeting with bottom club Cumberland United is destined to shape the club's future at TK Shutter Reserve, he added. Saturday's loss has placed MetroStars in a precarious position with the club hovering just four points above Cumberland.

Karlovic revealed that the club had already started building for the future with the side blooding a plethora of under-20 players after a spate of injuries and illnesses had rocked the club before the derby clash.

``We missed the experience of Damien Stam, David Menechella, Joe Grgic and Shane Pearce for the match,'' Karlovic said.

``We struggled in the first 30 minutes of the match but then we came back. ``We were unlucky not to get a penalty in the second half but we also missed the killer edge up front. ``The nose for goal and the final pass went missing.''

Campbelltown's 2006 Sergio Melta medal winner Nathan Fleetwood handed the Red Devils the lead in the 15th minute when he nodded a pin-point cross from Mimi Saric into the back of the net despite the vain attempt of MetroStars keeper Daniel Godley who couldn't stop the ball entering the net.

MetroStars midfielder Fabian Barbiero gave Campbelltown a fright two minutes later when he stole the ball on the half way line, raced towards the goal but flashed his shot wide from 15m.

Red Devils skipper Elias Demourtzidis doubled the score in the 35th minute when he poked the ball home from 5m after indecision in the MetroStars penalty box.

But a stunning goal from MetroStars youngster James Yong finally propelled MetroStars into action when his 25m pile driver cannoned into the bottom corner of the net giving Campbelltown keeper Nigel Young no chance in the 40th minute.

Tim Sarris squared the ledger for the visitors in the 52nd minute when his cheeky lob left the Red Devils defence stranded. Karlovic said Sarris's goal should have sparked a win but MetroStars couldn't turn its possession into goals. ``It's the difference between winning and losing,'' Karlovic said. ``If you don't put your chances away you pay and we did in the end.''

Former Raider Saric made MetroStars rue their missed chances when he planted the winner home from a neat cut-back from Campbelltown's Michael Matricciani in the 67th minute.

Three minutes later Saric should have made it 4-2 but after beating the offside trap and rounding Godley the Red Devils striker missed the target.

Cumberland United - Adelaide Galaxy 2:2 (1:1)

Goals: 1:0 Daniel Stuart (14.); 1:1 Angelo Arambatzis (30.); 1:2 Steven Grelli (50.); 2:2 Daniel Carter (70.)

In shocking conditions, Adelaide Galaxy and Cumberland played out a 2-2 draw in one of the leagues longest running derby fixtures. Cumberland took the lead in the 14th minute when Stuart fired home a cut back from 6 yards. Galaxy equalised 15 minutes before half-time when Angelo Arambatzis shot found the back of the net after appearing to take a deflection.

Steven Grelli gave the visiting side the lead with a cracking 20 yard drive off the underside of the cross bar 5 minutes into the second half. While Galaxy continued to attack and hold possession, Cumberland looked lively on the counter-attack. They levelled through Carter with 20 minutes to play. Galaxy wasted numerous opportunites to grab a winner.

Raiders - Modbury Jets 2:2 (1:0)

Goals: 1:0 Osama Malik (45+3.); 1:1 Aaron Westervelt (61.); 2:1 Daniel Reynolds (68.); 2:2 Leigh Ramsden (78.)

The conditions were terrible with a strong wind blowing and heavy showers frequently passing through. The match opened with the Raiders having an early chance when a Jason Trimboli free kick was beautifully saved by Barney Smith. Things settled down for a while until Modbury created their first main chance with an excellent free kick from Aaron Westervelt narrowly missing the boot of Sam Farncombe and going wide of goal. Another chance came when a good long ball was put through to Farncombe, but he hit the ball with the outside of his boot letting the ball go harmlessly out of play. The Raiders had one late opportunity in the half where the Modbury defence failed to clear the ball away and Osama Malik was able to put it away giving Raiders the half time lead of 1 - 0.

The second half had Modbury running with the breeze, which was weaker than the first half, but still there. The Raiders had the first main chance on goal when a counter attack saw a quick long ball put through to Trimboli who was in an offside position. From here the Jets lifted again and put the pressure on and Farncombe was fouled just outside the penalty area. Aaron Westervelt took the free kick beautifully finding the bottom corner of the net and equalising the score at 66 minutes. Modbury were now full of running and confidence and just lacking that final touch to take the lead. At the 71st minute a controversial penalty was given to the Raiders when Barney Smith came out and tackled the Raiders' forward. In some eyes this was an unjust decision, but Smith came up with the goods and saved the penalty from Michael Cartwright, but only a minute later a Trimboli cross found Daniel Reynolds on his own and he put the Raiders back in front at the 72nd minute. The Jets responded again from this with Leigh Ramsden and Konrad Kosnick coming off the bench providing fresh legs and plenty of movement and not too long after a Kosnick shot that went over the bar a Nathan Day corner was scrambled in the goal mouth before falling to Leigh Ramsden who blasted the ball into the net levelling the score at the 81 minute mark. From here it was all Modbury doing everything but finding the net and in the final outcome it was a hard fought 2 - 2 draw.
