Goals: 0:1 Matt Kelly (27.); 1:1 Nathan Fleetwood (60.); 2:1 Elias Demourtzidis (Penalty, 67.) SECOND HALF COLAPSE COSTS MODBURY Yesterday saw the Modbury Jets travel to Newton Village Sports Centre to take on a solid Campbelltown City team, which was always going to be a tough challenge and unfortunately for Modbury they fell short with a 2 - 1 loss. The first opportunity of the match went to Campbelltown when a break occurred and a decent cross found Simon Catanzaro who shot wide of goal. The Jets soon responded with a good run down the line from Scott Weidenbach and his cross found Russell Clayton who got a shot away but it was blocked by Campbelltown goal keeper Nigel Young. A short time afterwards Paul Savio was almost left red faced when his clearing kick went straight to Modbury's Konrad Kosnik who ran in and unselfishly passed off to Clayton and his shot was blocked letting Campbelltown off the hook. It was the home team who then had a short passage of play with a free kick going just over the bar and another shot not far off the target both once again from Catanzaro. It was some nice play from the Jets that turned the momentum when Rhys Devlin and Leigh Ramsden strung a neat couple of passes together before the ball was put in the goal area and the initial save from Young fell to Matt Kelly and he found the net giving Modbury the lead at the 29 minute mark. The Jets almost had a second goal just before the break when a free kick taken by Michael Menechella found Aaron Westervelt and his rocketing shot was just wide. This left the half time score at 1 - 0 to Modbury. The second half proved a different story as both teams came out looking different. An early break and dangerous cross which went wide for Campbelltown indicated that they were stepping it up a gear and this was proven with several attacks on goal pressuring the Jets' midfield and defence. Another run forward saw a ball through to Domenic Signoriello who again shot wide, but the concerns were there for Modbury that it was only a matter of when Campbelltown would strike if this pressure continued. The pressure did continue and the goal did come when a ball from Mimi Saric found Nathan Fleetwood and he made it 1 - 1 at the one hour mark of the match. Following the goal a run from Signoriello almost found the net again and although Campbelltown were playing well Modbury were allowing them too much room. The game then had a controversial moment when a penalty was given to Campbelltown against Ramsden to the disappointment of the Jets and this was converted by Elias Demourtzidis giving Campbelltown the lead at the 67th minute. The Jets were now looking for some sort of hope, but it was all but destroyed when Ramsden was possibly hard done by with a second yellow card resulting in him being sent off with ten minutes remaining. To the credit of the 10 Modbury boys they did not allow any further goals, but unfortunately that didn't help the result either with the final score of 2 - 1. Match report courtesy of Modbury Jets |
Goals: None Eagles restricted to tough draw by Val Migliaccio 24Apr07 BLUE EAGLES teenager Adam Vizzari believes his side had a ``bad day at the office'' in last Saturday's 0-0 draw with Raiders at the Croatian Sports Centre. Vizzari, 18, said Blue Eagles had the game for the taking but ran out of ideas in the second half. ``Our defence was playing deep,'' Vizzari said. ``After a good first half they ended up playing long balls and we couldn't score." ``We had an off day and a lot of players will say the same thing.'' Vizzari comes from good stock with his father Frank a solid defender for Adelaide City and Para Hills in the 1980s before succumbing to a back injury when he transferred to Azzurri (Blue Eagles) over 20 years ago. But young Vizzari is seemingly a different type of player than Frank. ``I've been playing in an attacking midfield role,''' Vizzari said. ``More in the centre of midfield and pushing forward between the midfield and strikers.'' Vizzari is in his second year of senior soccer after spending time overseas in Italy and Serbia two years ago where he learned from the master craftsmen. ``I'd like to go back overseas,'' he said. ``But I'm not thinking about it at the moment. ``I just want to have a good year in the Super League and then we'll see what happens.''
